Did you know…

… that tomorrow marks the first day that American cars were required to carry license plates? New York was the first state to require them, but it wasn’t until three years later that the first plates were actually manufactured … and those were in Massachusetts. Until then, New Yorkers had to register their vehicles but create their own plates, like the leather one to the left which appears to contain the initials of the owner.
